We searched 100 towns and cities across Great Britain and checked 434 heating firms, 210 of which publish their prices. Then we compared how the same firms' prices have changed year by year since 2019, to show how much a boiler service has gone up.

What a boiler service costs in 2026
Across the 120 firms that list a fixed price for a standard gas boiler service, the average (median) is £95 including VAT. Half charge less and half charge more. The typical range (the middle 50% of prices) is £80 to £110. The cheapest price we found was £60 and the dearest just under £150.
Another 80 firms only have a starting price, such as "from £80". We report these separately because many customers pay more than the starting price. The average starting price is £80.
A third of firms don't say whether VAT is included, so we counted their price as including VAT. Among the 75 firms that do say, the average price is £96.
| Average price (median) | £95 |
|---|---|
| Typical range | £80 to £110 |
| Average starting ("from") price | £80 |

|---|---|---|
| South East | £105 | 14 |

| Midlands | £90 | 12 |
| South West | £90 | 12 |
| Yorkshire | £90 | 17 |
| Wales | £85* | 7 |
| North East | £84.50* | 4 |
* Fewer than 10 local firms, so treat it as a rough guide. We'll search more towns in these regions next time. National companies are left out of the regional figures because they charge the same everywhere.
Landlord certificates, oil boilers and service plans
Many of the same firms also price landlord certificates, oil boiler services and service plans. All prices include VAT.
| Job | Average price | Firms |
|---|---|---|
| Landlord gas safety certificate (CP12) on its own | £84 | 50 |
| Boiler service and landlord gas safety certificate together | £132.50 | 42 |
| Oil boiler service | £157 | 14 |
| Monthly service plan from a local firm (per month) | £10/month | 17 |
Landlords who book the service and gas safety certificate together pay an average of £132.50, about £47 less than the two separately (£179). The oil boiler figure comes from only 14 firms, so treat it as a rough guide.
Monthly plans from local firms cost an average of £10 a month and usually cover the service plus some repairs, so compare what's included as well as the price.
How prices have changed since 2019
For the trend, we gathered each firm's archived prices for every year since 2019 from the Internet Archive and checked each one against the original record. That gave a price history for 72 firms. Each firm is compared only with its own earlier prices, so firms joining or leaving the sample can't skew the trend.
| Year | Rise since 2019 |
|---|---|
| 2019 | 0% |
| 2020 | 2% |
| 2021 | 2% |
| 2022 | 6% |
| 2023 | 11% |
| 2024 | 15% |
| 2025 | 16% |
| 2026 | 22% |
Across those firms, boiler service prices are up 22% since 2019. The 20 firms we could trace all the way back to 2019 are up 33% on average. Consumer prices rose by about a third over the same time (ONS Consumer Prices Index), so boiler servicing has broadly tracked inflation.
Firms don't change their prices often. Of the 47 firms we could compare with a year ago, two in three charge exactly what they did in 2025.
| Compared with | Firms | Average rise |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | 20 | 33% |
| 2021 | 30 | 20% |
| 2022 | 31 | 16% |
| 2024 | 43 | 9% |
| 2025 | 47 | 5% |
What this means if you're booking a service
- About £95 is a fair price for a standard gas boiler service in 2026. Above about £110, you're paying more than three in four firms charge.
- Get at least three quotes. Prices for the same service vary a lot, even within the same region.
- A very low price isn't always a bargain. Check the service includes a flue gas analysis and a written service record.
- Only a Gas Safe registered engineer can legally service a gas boiler. You can check an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

How we collected and checked the prices
On 27 and 28 October 2026 we ran 200 searches for boiler service prices, two in each of 100 towns and cities across ten regions of Great Britain. From 1,884 search results we identified 434 heating firms. We left out cost guides, directories and lead-generation services and used only prices from the firms themselves. Where one business trades under a string of near-identical names, one per town, we counted it once.
Each price was recorded twice, separately, and every price where the two readings disagreed was reviewed again. Automated checks confirmed each price against its source. We then rechecked that every price was still current, used each firm's own price list where it had one, and treated dated offers from before 2025 as past prices, not current ones. Finally, we checked a sample of 20 firms one by one: 17 matched, and we corrected the other 3.
Each firm counts once. The average price we give is the median: the middle price when all the firms' prices are lined up, so a few very high or low prices can't skew it. These are advertised prices, which aren't always what customers end up paying: parts, extra appliances and weekend visits cost more. Northern Ireland isn't covered. The full method is on our methodology page.
